MUCH MORE THAN SUN AND BEACH

Salou is another nearby town worth visiting.

Its origins date back to Greek times. Later, during the Roman period, Salauris—as it was known during the Roman Empire—turned its port into one of the most important trading hubs in Hispania, a position it maintained throughout the Middle Ages and the Modern Era. It was during the 19th century that Salou became a top tourist destination, a status it still holds today as the most popular town on the Costa Dorada.

The central hub is Jaume I Promenade. During the day it is filled with people doing sports; in the afternoon it becomes the perfect place for a stroll, enjoying an ice cream and watching a beautiful sunset; and at night it transforms into music, water, and color with shows projected onto its ornamental fountains: the Labyrinth Fountain, the Cybernetic Fountain, and the Illuminated Fountain. On the same promenade stands the monument to Jaume I, which honors the fleet that departed from this point to conquer Mallorca under the king’s orders.

The beaches are another highlight of Salou. Many tourists are drawn by the beauty of its fine golden sand. Playa Larga, the most famous and located along Jaume I Promenade, is also one of the busiest and offers all kinds of services.

Also highly recommended is the Camí de Ronda, a path that runs along the entire coastline of the municipality, from the Pilons area to the lighthouse at the Cape. The lighthouse dates back to 1858 and has illuminated the Gulf of Sant Jordi ever since. A beautiful route rich in nature that will delight you with landscapes, panoramic views, and hidden coves.

A convenient way to explore the town is by the Tourist Train, which offers circular routes: one focused on cultural sites and another exploring the coves of the Cape.

Salou was awarded the Sports Tourism Destination seal in 2013, recognizing its high-quality sports facilities and its ability to host sports at all levels, including national and international events. Ideal for sports enthusiasts.

Its gastronomy is also remarkable, offering a wide variety of international cuisine.

A lively destination 24 hours a day, thanks to its vibrant nightlife: pubs, clubs, terraces, karaoke… something for everyone.
